Why Security Awareness Training?
During the 2017-2018 academic year, over 350 Xavier accounts were compromised due to successful phishing attempts by cyber-criminals. Xavier University responded by implementing 12-character passwords, increased monitoring, and new security policies. We have also partnered with KnowBe4, a leading Security Awareness Training organization, to help us create a “human firewall” protecting against malicious Internet attackers. By increasing everyone's security awareness, we will decrease the number of security incidents at Xavier.
What Does Security Awareness Training Consist Of?
KnowBe4's program consists of assigned courses, videos, games, and newsletters on security topics that educate about the basics of security and social engineering. The Cyber Security Awareness Training is engaging and does not need to be completed in one sitting. Certain departments will get different training courses based on their areas of specialization, regulatory, or contractual requirements.
This state-of-the-art program consists of training campaigns paired with simulated phishing exercises that selected individuals will participate in. We will send out a simulated phishing email in the near future to gauge Xavier's vulnerability to phishing attacks. We will also schedule the annual security training for October, followed by periodic phishing tests aimed at all faculty and staff.
How Do I Access the Training System?
To access the training system:
