Adding a Xavier Network Printer to Windows 7

Tags print windows

Follow these steps to add a printer. Note that the computer must be on the Xavier domain for these steps to work properly. These instructions are meant for employees only.

  1. Click Start menu >> Devices and Printers.
  2. On the Devices and Printers screen, at the top left of the screen, click the “Add A Printer” button.
  3. Click Add a network, wireless or bluetooth printer.
  4. Click The printer I want isn’t listed.

  5. On the next screen, in the “Select a Shared Printer by name” field, paste in the appropriate printer. For example, \\nbcprint01\Alumni_Lobby2_CLJ5500D
  6. You may also browse for a printer by typing in \\nbcprint01\ and then typing the building name. For example \\nbcprint01\alumni (do not hit Enter after the building name, see example picture below) will show the list of printers in the Alumni building. Choose your printer from the list.

  7. Click Next.
  8. The printer driver will download and install. The duration of time will vary, but you should see a progress window indicating this is happening.
  9. You will receive a screen confirming successful installation. Click Next.

  10. A final screen will appear offering the chance to set the printer as default and to print a test page. Click Finish to complete the installation.
The printer naming convention is BUILDING_ROOM/LOCATION_PRINTER-MODEL. For example, there is a printer in Gallagher room 201 and it is named GSC_RM201_LJP4515. If there are multiple printers in a room, pay particular attention to the model number (which should be displayed on the device itself).
