Cautionary Banner on Emails from External Senders

As of March 10, 2020, emails from external senders will include a cautionary banner

Body

Effective 3/10/2020, a cautionary banner will appear at the top of all emails received from external senders. The banner is a notification that the email originated outside of Xavier University, and its contents should be approached with extra care.

In plain text-formatted emails, the cautionary banner will appear like this:

CAUTION EXTERNAL EMAIL
DO NOT open attachments or click on links from unknown senders or unexpected emails

In HTML-formatted emails, the cautionary banner will appear like this:

Should you notice this banner on an email that appears to be from a xavier.edu address, there is a high likelihood it is a phishing attempt.
