Wireless Sharing Your Laptop with a Microsoft Teams Rooms (MTR)

This article will discuss wireless sharing of your laptop content using a Microsoft Teams Room (MTR) within a classroom or meeting space on both Windows and Mac.

1. From your laptop, open the Teams desktop client and make sure you are signed in with your Xavier account.

2. On the top menu bar, select “Settings and more” (...) next to your profile picture.  

 

3. Select “Cast” from the dropdown menu.  

 

4. Select a nearby Teams Room from the list.

 

5. Select Next. 

 

6. If you have a meeting scheduled in that room, select join a scheduled meeting. If there are no scheduled meetings, select Just Cast.

 

7. Select Next.  

 

8. Choose the content you want to cast to the device, turn on Include Computer Sound then select Cast. 

 

9. Use the keyboard shortcut Shift+Ctrl+Alt+T to optimize the playback resolution to avoid lag, frame drops, and audio sync issues.

 

10. To end the cast session, select End meeting via your computer. This will end the meeting for both the computer and the room. If you select Leave via Teams on your computer, you will need to also end the call via the device you were casting to. 

Mac

1. From your laptop, confirm you have the Microsoft Teams application installed onto your laptop.

2. Open System Settings

3. Select Privacy & Security

4. Under Privacy, choose Microphone and make sure Microsoft Teams is selected.

5. Under Privacy, choose Screen Recording and make sure Microsoft Teams is selected. (Once this is done the first time, you should not have to do this again.)

6. Open the Teams application and make sure you are signed in with your Xavier account. 

7. On the top menu bar, select “Settings and more” (...) next to your profile picture.  

8. Select “Cast” from the dropdown menu. 

9. Select a nearby Teams Room from the list.

10. Select Next. 

11. If you have a meeting scheduled in that room, select join a scheduled meeting. If there are no scheduled meetings, select Just Cast.

12. Select Next.  

13. Choose the content you want to cast to the device, turn on Include Computer Sound then select Cast. 

14. Select the Control Center and under Sound mute the audio.

15. To end the cast session, select End meeting via your computer. This will end the meeting for both the computer and the room. If you select Leave via Teams on your computer, you will need to also end the call via the device you were casting to.
