Xavier’s email service supports sending encrypted email messages to help protect sensitive information. When you send an encrypted message, the recipient will use a passcode to decrypt and view the contents of the email. This is especially useful when sharing confidential or sensitive material between individuals.
The recommended best practice is to send the encrypted email to the intended recipient and then provide the decryption passcode separately, ideally by phone. You should also request that the recipient permanently delete the message after reading it to ensure the information is not retained longer than necessary.
Sending an Encrypted Email Message
- Open a new email message.
- In the subject line, type [ENCRYPT] before the actual subject.
- Type your message. When finished, send the message as usual.

Receiving an Encrypted Email Message
- Open the email message.
- Download and open the "message.html" attachment.
- Click Use a One Time Passcode.

- An email will be sent to the recipient email address with the one time passcode:

- Enter the passcode, then click Continue to view the message content.
