Adding an HP Xavier Network Printer to a Macintosh

This article is for adding the HP network printers to Macintosh systems.  The article "Adding a Toshiba MFD Printer to Mac OS" covers this process for the Toshiba Multifunction printers.

These instructions are meant for employees only.

Follow these steps add a new printer using the printer's IP address. Often the address is also displayed on the screen of the printer, for example: 10.162.40.10. Some printers also have the IP address labeled on the printer itself.

You must be attached to a campus wired network, or the Xavier campus wireless network "xavierwireless" to communicate with campus printers.
  1. Click the Apple menu in the upper left of the screen and choose System Preferences.


     
  2. Click the Printers & Scanners preference pane.


     
  3. On the left side of the Printers & Scanners window you will see a list of your current printers. Click “+” to start adding the printer.


     
  4. When the Add Printer window appears, click the IP icon in the toolbar.

  5. Fill out the fields as follows:


     
    • Protocol = AirPrint
    • Address = the IP address of the printer
    • Queue = leave blank
    • Name = any name that you would like to give this printer
    • Location = any location description you wish to add
    • Print Using = leave the defaults
  6. Click the Add button. You will see a brief progress window as the printer is being set up. When done, you will be returned to the Printers & Scanners window.
  7. Confirm your printer is now listed in the Printers view on the left side. You can close the window once this is confirmed.
