Changing or Resetting Your Xavier Password

Your Xavier account password can be changed by logging into the Self Service Password Reset (SSPR) website.

  • If you are a brand-new account holder, be sure you have already setup your account; SSPR will not work for you until this is done.
  • If you are a current account holder, you must first be enrolled with SSPR before you can use it. If you have not enrolled and have subsquently lost or forgotten your password, then you will need to contact the Help Desk.

When changing your password, keep the following in mind:

Before changing your password

  • Passwords must be a minimum of 12 characters. Longer passwords are harder to guess.
  • Include at least one uppercase letter and one number.
  • Do not use easily-guessed words and patterns (eg, "Xavier", "123", years, seasons, first/last/family names).
  • Allowed special characters are: ! % * + - / : ?_ ' ;
  • Stronger passwords needn’t be hard to remember. Pick your favorite phrase, movie title or song lyric and add in required elements (uppercase, numbers) as needed.
  • Do not recycle passwords you already use elsewhere. Always keep your passwords distinct.

After changing your password

  • Update your password on any mobile devices you own, to prevent lockouts.
  • Never post your password in plain sight, or enter it while in a crowded public place.
  • Never email your password to anyone, ever.
  • Never submit your credentials on a website unless it is a secure site.
