Start/End Dates

This project begins May 14, with an estimated completion date of August 7. The bulk of installation activity will occur in late June through August.

Changes for 2018

  • BYOD. Refresh classrooms follow the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) standard set by the Alter Hall design team in 2014. Labs and Specialty rooms that rely on dedicated PCs for unique functions in those areas will receive updated models.

A laptop or other portable device is needed to present content in BYOD rooms. Fulltime faculty already have a Xavier-issued laptop for this purpose; personal devices can also be used, if preferred. We recognize that adjuncts often lack laptops. Accordingly we will provide loaner laptops for adjuncts to check out from the CLC Library, beginning a week prior to start of Fall semester.
  • Solstice wireless display. In rooms where Solstice wireless display is available, it will be the default touchpanel display option, accommodating the widest variety of mobile devices. (For more information on Solstice, please see our "Related Articles" on the sidebar). Lecterns also include HDMI and mini DisplayPort cable connectors compatible with most laptops.

  • VGA retirement. VGA is considered a legacy connector, and has been dropped from current and future classroom refreshes. Those with older (VGA) or newer (USB-C) equipped devices in refreshed classrooms can display using Solstice, without need of wires or adapters.

  • Lampless projectors. Projectors will be upgraded to newer lampless models. These projectors have more consistent brightness and image quality, and eliminate downtime due to lamp replacements.

  • Document cameras. Permanently-mounted Epson DC-21 document cameras are standard in Single and Dual-projector classrooms, unless otherwise noted.

  • New lecterns. Older 42" lecterns are being upgraded to new 36" models, in accordance with campus standards.

  • New screens. Projection screens in Elet Hall will be resized to allow better use of board space for instruction.

Additional Improvements

Classroom Technology will make the following additional improvements during the summer refresh project timeline:

  • Solstice installation/upgrade in Alter Hall classrooms. Effective last year, we adopted Mersive Solstice as the campus wireless display standard. Prior to Fall semester, we will replace Alter's legacy Airmedia units with new Mersive Solstice Pods. Solstice provides superior device support and video streaming speed, compared to Airmedia. This upgrade will start at 8:00am on Friday May 25 and will complete at or before 4:00pm.

  • Mini DisplayPort cables in Hailstones and Cohen classrooms. Mini Display Port cables will be added to Hailstones and Cohen classrooms as part of an ongoing effort to better accommodate computers with Mini DisplayPort/Thunderbolt inputs. We will post a separate announcement in Xavier Today in advance of making this change.
